This is a soundtrack to a performance within an installation created by myself and Henry Detweiler during a residency with a difference: 3 uninterrupted weeks within an abandoned building in downtown Atlanta that had formerly been a drag venue and nightclub. No time outside the building, no phone, no internet. You can still see some of our installation work by visiting the Mammal Gallery, which opened a few months after No Vacancy in the same space, and retained our large scale wall painting and some other elements.
This soundtrack is a patchwork of found sounds (re-edits or micro-sampling of songs burned from CDR's found stuck to the floor behind the bar, or in the derelict jukebox in the basement), and sounds that Henry and I performed and recorded ourselves within the building. Each track, when chosen by an audience participant via the aforementioned (and now-repurposed) jukebox, triggered a specific action within the performance space.
